The WD Booth Charitable Trust/Island magazine Emerging Writers Mentor Program seeks to build the resilience and capacity of the writing sector in Tasmania, and Island is pleased to announce this year’s recipients.
A generous grant from the WD Booth Charitable Trust has enabled Island to launch the WD Booth Charitable Trust/Island Emerging Writer Mentoring Program. This continues Island’s work developing emerging writers and editors in Tasmania. This inaugural program offers emerging writers mentoring from established industry practitioners, providing them with the opportunity to produce a major piece of publisher-ready writing. The recipients will also benefit from publication in Island, one of Australia’s leading literary magazines.
We received applications from across Tasmania and are pleased to announce the successful applicants and their matched mentors:
Alana Hrasky – Sophie Cunningham (author / former editor of Meanjin Quarterly / former chair of Australia Council for the Arts’ Literature Board)
Felix Ellis – Geordie Williamson (chief literary critic of The Australian / fiction editor of Island magazine)
Loren Clarke – James Bradley (author / critic)
Lucy Taylor – Matthew Lamb (editor of Island magazine and Review of Australian Fiction)
Kristen Lang – Sarah Holland-Batt (writer / academic / poetry editor of Island magazine)
Stay tuned for more from these writers and editors in future editions of Island!
Our thanks and appreciation go to everyone who applied.
